Vermox is a synthetic broad-spectrum anthelmintic available as chewable tablets, each containing 100 mg of mebendazole. Pinworms: 100 mg as a single dose; may need to repeat after 2 weeks; treatment should include family members in close contact with patient Whipworms, roundworms, hookworms: One tablet twice daily, morning and evening on 3 consecutive days; if patient is not cured within 3-4 weeks, a second course of treatment may be administered. Tablets may be chewed, swallowed whole, or crushed and mixed with food. You should check for helminth ova in feces within 3-4 weeks following the initial therapy.
Vermox tablets may cause stomach upset, loss of appetite, diarrhea, fever, headache, dizziness, drowsiness or rash. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. Even during short-term treatments, constipation and diarrhea have sometimes been observed. Before the expulsion of significant amounts of worms, abdominal pain and diarrhea can occur. The same is true for fever, pruritus and skin rashes (which are probably hypersensitive reactions).
The worm's eggs are easily transmitted to other people by bedding, clothing, food, toys, and even air. Follow these steps to get rid of pinworms in addition to treatment with mebendazole: take a shower or stand-up bath every day. Wash your hands with soap and water and clean under your fingernails often, especially after using the toilet and before eating. Air your bedroom daily. Vacuum and do not sweep all floors and upholstered furniture every day to remove pinworm eggs. Pinworm is spread very easily to others in close contact with the infected person. Treatment of family members and other close contacts may be necessary. To prevent reinfection, toilets must be disinfected daily, and clothing, linens, towels, and pajamas must be changed and washed daily.
