Generic Amoxil (Amoxicillin) is a penicillin-like antibiotic used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria. It can be used together with antibiotic drug called clarithromycin or Biaxin to treat stomach ulcers caused by Helicobacter pylori infection. It can also be used with a stomach acid reducer called lansoprazole. People who suffer from asthma, liver or kidney disease, a bleeding or blood clotting disorder, mononucleosis, who have allergic or unusual reaction to amoxicillin or to any other penicillin antibiotic, such as ampicillin should be very careful while taking Amoxil tablets.

Drug Interactions:

Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medications you may take, especially of probenecid, disulfiram, birth control pills or tetracyclines. Amoxicillin may interfere with the effectiveness of birth control pills. Discuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor. This antibiotic may cause false positive results in diabetic urine testing using Clinitest. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

Amoxicillin Side Effects

Amoxicillin may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting during the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor promptly. An allergic reaction to Amoxicillin is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing. Do not give Amoxil to other people, if it was not prescribed to them.
